Hi Jennifer - Just happened upon your blog and thought I should say.. don't beat yourself up although I am a year or so late. I am usually on top of my google game when it comes to dealing with Dr's too. I trusted my son's top rated Dr who also happens to have a peanut allergy and we did the FluMist too. My son freaks out at the sight of needles and we thought he had outgrown asthma. Well... he now has pneumona after receiving the shot! : ( Thankfully we have been able to treat him with antibiotics and breathing treatments but, I should have known better.

I am very happy with "Macaroni Grill", that they are food allergy conscious. My 2 daughters and I are anaphylactic to all dairy products and my 2 daughters are also, anaphylactic to peanut products. I was happy to see that my children could enjoy a nice meal without worrying if there food was contaminated with a dairy or peanut product. All restraunts should do the same. Thank you!

Join the 21st Century! I bought a flat-sided flash drive, loaded ALL my personal/emergency/medical data, and printed the Medic Alert logo. I am a mom of a Pnut allergy child & we are puppy raising our daughter service dog for Pnut detection. We searched the WORLD for a trainer that knew what they were doing. Here is what I found, two of the main training companies here in the USA have major problems with their dogs working, this information was received by parents who spent the over $10 K for a dog. Other trainers pretend to know. believe me, I talked to trainers in Hong Kong, Disney World, Canada, throughout the USA, England, Germany & visited many! I have found an honest, reliable company who does not make you refinance your home to save your child life! (our cost $5500) I am working with them to train our daughter's service dog. This company goes beyond training the dog. 1st they NEVER retrain dogs from the pound. Those dogs are unreliable & you never know what is in that dogs past that may make them quit working or turn on a child! This company hand picks their puppies from reliable breeders of service animals, their dogs must pass the public access test & go through extensive testing to make sure that they are properly behaved at all times & work hard 24 hours a day! They also train for the dog to call 911, retrieve the medication, alert to not only the allergen but to a reaction in the child. PLUS search off lead! My child can not enter a room to lead a dog on a hand lead search, she will release the dog & the door give the command & the dog will serach a room alert to the allergen or return to let her know it is safe. FYI: my daughter is 5 & maybe 40 pounds. She can lead her service dog, who is 75# and growing, with ONE finger on the leash with our being pulled!

Wow, the school really "gets it". That's great they are so acommodating. I am fortunate that my daughter's school (public) is nut free too. Although there's some that would like to change that. At parent orientation the other day, a grandfather said his grandson asked if he could have a peanut butter sandwich for lunch and just put the allergy kids at another table - What nerve! and so innapropriate for a non parent to request a bending of the rules. The principal said no this is the policy, sorry, I need to keep the kids safe.

I said well I like this nut free policy please keep it, because allergy is life threatening, the grandpa just walked away. I should have said, how about your grandson go sit at a segregated table in the corner.

Best for a great and "safe" school year. Great blog :-)

My kids have been asking about going to the Red Sox, and there were 4 (yes that is right!) games with a peanut-free seating area. BUT, my PA son is only 5 and there is no way he will sit still long enough to justify the very expensive seats. To save money, we could do standing room, but he'd only last a very short time standing, so we opted to wait a few more years. Maybe wait a tiny bit and plan on a future road trip? I have heard many good comments about those Seattle games.

Take the alergic child to a "non food event" the same week as the alergic child goes to the baseball game. Perhaps a drive in where you can bring your own chairs.

The stress of being around nuts will at the very least shorten your life, via stress.

Or wait a few weeks to see if a nut free section opens up closer to home.
